There is no doubt that someone who was at the meeting in October 1911 that formed the Cairn Terrier Club and drew up the original Standard and who bred three Champions...the first in 1914 the last in 1937 ..has to be considered a significant figure in the early history of the breed.

The three Champions were CH BROCAIRE SPEIREAG by the first dog Champion CH GESTO out of BRIDE and made up in by Mrs Alastair Campbell who all would acknowledge as the driving force behind recognition. The second was CH SILVER HAWK OUT OF THE WEST made up in 1937 and owned by Mrs Noney Fleming whose OUT OF THE WESTs were a major force in the breed in the early days The third was CH LOCKYERS IAN made up by Miss Hawke herself also in 1937. Both Ian and Hawk were by the great CH SPLINTERS OF TWOBEES. .

The postcard reproduced (left) was given to me by that great old English dog lady Peggy Grayson and features the young Miss Patricia King at Crufts in 1938 nursing two of Miss Hawke's dogs LOCKYERS SHADOW and LOCKYERS SUNSHINE Later as Mrs Patricia Breach she was to become well known over many years for her HEARN Cairns and exports from the kennel to the US were quite influential in that country.

However she has of course a significant tie to this country. In 1937 Miss Grice in Victoria imported TWOBEEES TINKERBELL OF HEARN a Splinters daughter and litter sister to the CC winning TITANIA OF HEARN. It was her arrival that was the foundation of Family 59 in this country. Mated to TREBLIG BOUNCER (Imp UK) on no less than four occasions the offspring provided stock for many kennels and stock closely in bred to her won well for many years throughout Australia.
